Our team creates safe spaces to “CHAT” and learn about coping strategies in Asian child-parent conflicts. This program aims to facilitate child-parent communication, break stigma, and develop effective coping skills in a culturally sensitive manner. Ultimately, together we bring visibility to Asian American’s mental wellness. How it works: our team creates vignettes that captures specific themes of child-parent conflict. Then 1) problematic scenarios are acted out, 2) a moderator processes perspectives of both child and parent, and 3) the actors re-do the same skit after incorporating more effective communication skills leading to a “alternative scenario." We also produce flashcards and short clips to demonstrate how to “role play” these communication skills as child and parents. In addition, we provide professional coping tips that could be especially helpful for Asian and Asian Americans.
